This is a Health Clinic founded in the 90s by a few women of Agali Awamu Group. It is affiliated to St. Luke's Church, Nvule in Uganda. One of them is Mrs. Nora Nakabugo Mukiibi of Kawumba, in Mawokota County, Buganda in Uganda. They used to walk to Bulunda Church of Uganda which their father, Kezironi Ssekawaabe, and mother, Yuniya Nakiwala founded, for years until they finallly founded their own Church near them, St. Luke's Nvule, Church of Uganda. These stalwart women belonged to the Women's group called "Agali Awamu" (loosely translated, United we stand). In the 90s they saw a great need for the sick in their community to get treatment within a reachable location. So they started fund raising to build. They chose a name Kisumba, after the dedication of an orthopeadic surgeon, the first in East Africa, Nora's brother, David Kisumba, who died in a car accident in 1979 at 45 years during the curfew era of Idi Amin he had imposed on Kampala. Kisumba was Nora's younger brother who had dedicated himself to helping the disadavantaged and vulnerable in his home area where he had grown up. Prof. Kisumba used to go on Saturdays and hold a Mobile Clinic, at times with a volunteer Nurse, to diagnose and treat the sick. Others he referred to nearby Dipensaries and hospitals like Buwama and Mitala Maria, Nkozi even Masaka, and Mulago.
It has not been an easy road for this project as you can see. After some funds in 2009, were they able to put in windows and doors. Then they were able to get a doctor and nurses to start using the facility. The road is still long ahead.
Nora said, "I am so glad that we are able to get some treatment at this Health Centre. I am not able to move so freely since I am older now, and weak, it is your responsibility to see it through. It is 17 year since the project started."
Mrs. Nora Mukiibi is in her 90s now. She trained as a Nurse at Mengo Nursing School in the 60s, but did not practice for she got married soon after and became a full time housewife.
